Eautec Raw Water Treatment Coagulant & Flocculant Treatment Programme

Coagulants and flocculants are essential chemicals used in raw water treatment to remove suspended solids, turbidity, organic matter, and other impurities. These chemicals help in the clarification process by aggregating fine particles into larger clumps that can be easily removed through sedimentation or filtration.

  • Coagulants: Positively charged chemicals that neutralize the negative charge of suspended particles, causing them to destabilize and form micro flocs. Common coagulants include aluminium sulfate (alum), ferric chloride, ferric sulfate, and Polyaluminum chloride (PAC).
  • Flocculants: Long-chain polymeric compounds that bridge and bind coagulated particles together into larger flocs, making them easier to settle or filter out. Flocculants are typically polyacrylamides (PAM) and can be classified as anionic, cationic, or non-ionic, depending on the charge required for a specific application.
